BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Wednesday condemned the incident at Kantiagarh village under Palibandha panchayat where Biju Janata Dal workers exploded hand bombs at dead of night to terrorise the villagers. BJP spokesperson Ashok Sahu alleged that a party worker Pintu Swain who was kidnapped from his house on Tuesday night succumbed to his injuries inflicted by the kidnappers. A lady inmate of the house sustained grievous injuries in her private part and three other women were also admitted to the MKCG Medical at Berhampur with serious injuries. Although police help was sought by the panicky villagers immediately after the incident, the police response was deliberately delayed. Police have not made any arrest though all the culprits were hiding in the village, Sahu said. When the panchayat election is round the corner, the ruling party has resorted to goondaism by misusing the State police and using goons to terrorise villagers, Sahu said. He further alleged that in Bhanjanagar area, local Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh has been threatening private taxi owners whose vehicles are requisitioned by the BJP for electioneering. It is anarchy in Ganjam District, the BJP leader said. Demanding immediate shifting of the district superintendent of police and deputy inspector-general of police, the BJP requested the State Election Commission to ensure free and fair election in the district. Sahu demanded free medical treatment to the injured in the Bomb attack. The injured should be paid compensation of ` 10 lakh each and the family members of the dead be paid ` 20 lakh. State BJP vice-president Debendra Mohapatra is camping at the place of occurrence. Another high-level team led by State general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan has left for the affected village to take stock of the situation.
