T’MALAI: A 41-year-old man employed at the Fisheries Department died after being stung by a swarm of honeybees on Saturday night at Sathanur dam.Three of his companions, who were also attacked are currently under treatment Sekar of Malligapuram and three of his colleagues including Elumalai (50) of Ayyanar (56) and Kumar (40) of Sathanur, had gone to inspect if there was illegal fishing at the dam, when they were attacked by the swarm of honeybees.While Elumalai, Ayyanar and Kumar managed to get away from the place, Sekar fell down. On hearing the alarm raised by the trio, passers-by rushed to the spot and helped them. They were treated at the Primary Health Centre at Sathanur and referred to the GH at Tiruvannamalai.Sekar died on the way to the hospital. This is the second such incident at Sathanur in the last 11 months. On April 30, 2011, the then collector Rajendran and a team of PWD officials, who had gone to the dam to inspect air-cracks, were attacked by bees after the hives were disturbed during the inspection.
