Bangladesh denies India transit rights
India may use the Pan-Asian Highway only through Myanmar.

New Delhi: Bangladesh has stated that no transit rights will be given to India on the Pan-Asian Highway.

India will be able to use the highway only as it passes through Myanmar onward to Thailand. Bangladesh cannot be used as a transit route.

Bangladesh has given no reasons for its stand and India will seek an amendment of the route plan.

When completed the Pan-Asian Highway will be more than one 100,000 kilometres long.

The highway is expected to link 32 countries including many ports and harbours and the landlocked Central Asia.

The highway will facilitate travel to most Asian capitals.
