Kolkata: Following the success of his first film Autograph, a tribute to Satyajit Ray's Nayak, young director Srijit Mukherjee is now ready with 'Baishe Srabon' – a heady cocktail of thriller, violence, music and Bengali poetry.
Dark and a lot more layered than 'Autograph', his second film explores the genre of crime thriller in Tollywood in a whole new way, said Srijit.
"After 'Autograph', I wanted to make a very different movie. As a thriller buff, I had read crime thrillers in English and Bengali. The 'Baishe Srabon' script had actually been penned in 2008 for a tele-film on an entertainment channel," the director said at a pre-release press meet here.
After 'Autograph' which received numerous awards, superstar Prosenjit will feature again in 'Baishe Srabon', which means the 22nd day of the Bengali month Srabon.
"We could not have thought about the role of the loner, unemployed, former cop Probir Roychudhury without Bumba-da (Prosenjit)," said Srijit.
Probir Roychudhury's bitterness and angst could nothave been portrayed by someone else other than Prosenjit, whose role was a far cry from the one in Autograph where he was was a mighty yet vulnerable superstar, he said.
"While I took more than half an hour to decide on 'Autograph' after hearing the script, it didn't take more than a few minutes for me to decide on this one," Prosenjit said.
He said he liked the way Srijit threw the challenge to him, to bring to life such an unconventional character in the film which also features director Goutam Ghosh.
