New Delhi: Union Sports Minister M S Gill's opposition to politicians and actors carrying the Olympic torch saw superstar Amitabh Bachchan taking a pot shot at the new minister.
"He (Gill) is the sports minister. Who will dare to argue with him? They are the government," Bachchan said.
Gill had said politicians and film stars have little right to hog the limelight at the Olympic relay event to be held in the Capital on Thursday.
Meanwhile, IOA chief Suresh Kalmadi has already contested Gill's view, saying citizens from all walks of life could run in the event in line with guidelines of the International Olympic Council.
However, sprint queen PT Usha, who will be taking part in the torch relay told PTI, "No doubt, sportspersons should be considered first to run in the relay but the movement itself will be complete only if people from all walks of life participate in it".
"Any responsible individual can carry the torch, which is the symbol for unity and there is nothing wrong in inviting other celebrities after giving prominence to sportspersons," she added.
