CHENNAI: DMK Parliamentary floor leader TR Baalu has written to Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi, urging him to include various schemes for Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Union Railway Budget. These include new trains, double-laning and expedition of railway projects. In his letter, Baalu pointed out that funds were pending for conversion of Tambaram into a third terminal and urged the ministry to allot atleast `30 crore for the project. He also urged the ministry to convert Royapuram as the fourth terminal.“The Railway Ministry should earmark adequate funds to set up the second unit of Indian Coach Factory in Perambur, which was announced in the 2009 Railway Budget,” Baalu added.The memorandum also sought adequate funding of the double-laning projects underway in the State, allocation of new trains, conversion of Rajdhani Express into a daily train and additional stoppages for a few trains run in the State.The Railway Minister had agreed to discuss the needs of Tamil Nadu with the officials and promised to take decisions in favour of TN, a release said.
