New Delhi: Following the killings of two Indian soldiers on Tuesday, media invitations to cover NCC parade have been cancelled. The decision to not invite media was being seen as an attempt by Army Chief General Bikram Singh to avoid questions on the death of the soldiers.
Every year, the Army chief interacts with media on this occasion but this year would be an exception. The decision could also have been taken in the view that the Army chief would get a better coverage at the Army Day briefing next week.
Meanwhile, situation got tensed between India and Pakistan following the brutal killings of the soldiers near the Line of Control. While the Pakistan government denied its hand in the killings, the Indian government insisted that there was clear evidence that Pakistan was behind it.
The two soldiers killed in the Poonch sector on Tuesday were Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh from Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh and Lance Naik Hemraj from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. Pakistani regular soldiers crossed into Indian territory at Mendher area and ambushed an Indian patrol killing two soldiers, both of them were brutally decapitated. The attack took place along the LoC when Pakistani troops came about 600 metres into Indian territory and assaulted the patrol party.
