In a joint raid, Jajpur and Keonjhar police recovered huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives from Aradapal forest on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted in the forest on the information provided by a CPI (ML) Janashakti Maoist leader Rabi Murmu who was arrested by the police three days back.
“Rabi Murmu was nabbed from the area bordering the two districts. During interrogation, he had revealed about the hideout in the forest. And accordingly, raids were conducted at various places in Aradapal forest,” said Jajpur SP Deepak Kumar. The police teams have seized two 8-mm rifles, one 8-mm pistol, 146 live ammunition, seven boosters, 100 aluminium detonators, a screwdriver set and other explosives, he added.
Four criminal cases are pending against Murmu with a serious offence committed in the neighbouring Keonjhar district. Three cases are registered in Tomka and Kaliapani police stations in Jajpur district. We have sought his remand in connection with these incidents, the SP said. “Police teams are scouring the forest for more seizures,” said Kumar.
