Kerala: Thriruvananthapuram residents are a worried lot these days because the number of robberies have shot up. And though the police have increased night patrolling, residents don't seem to be satisfied.
"At three o' clock in the night, five fully armed people barged in and looted us. We didn’t have any means to resist them. We still spend sleepless nights and feel very insecure," says a resident of Thriruvananthapuram, Kamukara Narayana Kurup.
Police in Thiruvananthapuram, are leaving no stone unturned to check burglary. They have even deployed mounted police (on horses) as well.
Mounted police were around in the city earlier as well but it was for traditional reasons. Sometime back, they were taken off the road, but only to be brought back after a series of robberies.
What is worrying the public is the modus operandi of these burglars. They come knocking at the door and then loot unsuspecting residents at gunpoint.
In December there were more than 50 robberies. Police believe that after the floods in Tamil Nadu, a number of criminals have crossed over to the state to make quick bucks.
The administration has certainly been on the backfoot but with intensified patrolling and measures such as these, Kerala Police has sent a strong signal that they are ready to meet any challenges head on.
