Anti-social activities being encouraged in WB: Buddhadeb
We will go to the masses and continue our movement for food security for all, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said.

Kolkata: Bitterly critical of the Trinamool Congress governance in West Bengal, CPI(M) leader and former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday said the state was lagging significantly in industry and agriculture with anti-social elements "active and unchecked".

"This government is a failure. We had no idea that law and order will worsen to this extent with spurt in anti-social activities," he said at a CPI(M) North 24 Parganas district committee meeting at DumDum.

The law and order problem had become "a daily feature" and had created panic among people with the administration totally inactive, Bhattacharjee claimed. "The IT sector has received a severe setback under the new regime, while development in both agriculture and industry has come to a total standstill," he said.

There had been not "even an inch" of progress in any sector ever since the exit of the Left Front government, the CPI(M) leader said. "The demand for electricity for industry has significantly slid, indicating sharp drop in industrial progress," he said adding, that the state government was also indifferent to the farmers' death.

Bhattacharjee asked CPI(M) cadres to be ready for the panchayat elections in the state, which, as per indications are likely to be held either in January-end or beginning of February.

"We will not compromise with our land policy and not leave an inch of our land under any circumstance," the former chief minister said and asked the cadres to set up booth committees, establish close mass contact, discuss with other Left parties and select women candidates. He took a dig at the government's unclear fiscal policy and said it was reprehensible that ministers' salaries had been hiked heftily while the state was in financial crisis.

CPI(M), Bhattacharjee said, would continue to demand universal rationing system. "We will go to the masses and continue our movement for food security for all."
