Another war cry from Achuthanandan
Following Pinarayi's remarks about TP Chandrashekar, Achuthanandan reminded him of party split in 1964 due to Dange...

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: VS Achuthanandan is not going to be cowed down by Pinarayi Vijayan’s tactics or the threat of disciplinary action against him. Making this clear, he fired fresh salvos against the CPM leadership in the state which amounted to an open war. Coming down heavily on the state secretary, he termed the current situation in the CPM state unit similar to that of 1964 under chairman SA Dange that led to the split in the party. At a news conference here, Achuthananadan reiterated his stance on Pinarayi Vijayan’s remarks that RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan was a traitor and a renegade. It was not the stand of the party and it was Vijayan’s own view, VS said and added that Onchiyam comrades like Chandrasekharan were ridiculed as renegades and traitors and expelled from the party when they expressed differences of opinion on matters pertaining to a panchayat there.Instead of holding discussions and taking them along with the party, the official leadership expelled them which resulted in the formation of the RMP. It was not the right style of leading a party, he said.“Onchiyam comrades were part of a valiant history of struggles and agitations against the government in which eight comrades were shot dead in 1948. They should not have been belittled and ridiculed as traitors,” he said.Recalling the situation that led to the split in the party in 1964, he said that when a large number of national council members expressed differences of opinion over policy issues and revisionist tendencies of SA Dange, he acted in an autocratic manner and expelled one-third of the national council members.Thirty-two of the national council members came out of the party to form the CPM.“It is history that those who were ridiculed by Dange were joined by lakhs of party workers."Dange, who called them traitors, was ousted from the CPI later. Asked whether Pinarayi also would meet the same fate as that of Dange, his answer was to wait and see. Unmindful of the potential threat of disciplinary action, he said he would see to it if disciplinary action is initiated against him.VS said that after Chandrasekharan was murdered on May 4, Pinarayi termed him as a renegade and a traitor. It was then that he rejected Vijayan’s view.  Following this, VV Dakshinamurthy justified Vijayan and objected to his stand. In the CPM, there is no high command system and in that case the party secretary’s views cannot be the party’s stand as in the League or the Congress, he said.
