Jammu: In yet another case of suicide, an Indian Army soldier killed himself by hanging in a cantonment area just outside this Jammu and Kashmir winter capital on Monday.
Sarvesh Kumar, 22, of the artillery posted in the Kaluchak area near Jammu "hanged himself to death" on Monday in his bathroom, defence spokesman in Jammu, Lt. Colonel S D Goswami said.
Kumar, who belonged to Unnav district of Uttar Pradesh, had got married just six months ago. He was working as an orderly in a mess in the Army cantonment.
Colonel Goswami said, "the reason for the suicide was not immediately known". The Army has ordered a court of inquiry police have also registered a case.
Suicides and cases of fragging, where a soldiers kills his colleagues, have gone up in the recent past. Over a dozen of them have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir since October.
Defence Minister A K Antony during his visit to the state Sunday had said that a high level committee had been constituted to probe causes of such cases in the Army. "The report will be immediately implemented after the committee submits it," he said.
