Another scam hits Yeddyurappa govt in Karnataka
A BJP corporator from Bangalore, son of a prominent Cabinet minister, has been arrested by the Lokayukta.

Bangalore: The Yeddyurappa government in Karnataka is in for more trouble with arrest of a prominent BJP corporator here by the Lokayukta for corruption.

Katta Jagadish, son of senior Cabinet Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, is arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act in a Rs 100 crore land scam. He was allegedly trying to buy over a crucial witness in the case. This is the fourth scam tainted minister in the Yeddyurappa Cabinet.

Jagadish was elected as a BJP corporator in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in February this year. He's been under the Lokayukta scanner for about two weeks now.

The Lokayukta police were investigating how Katta had claimed about Rs 4 crore as compensation for a land he sold to the Karnataka Industrial Board, though he was not the owner of the land.

He was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly tried to buy over a crucial witness in the case, who had evidence against him.

Jagadish's aide tried to pay Rs 1 lakh to the witness -- money that's been seized by the Lokayukta. Jagadish's father Katta Subramanya Naidu is a Yeddyurappa loyalist and is the minister for IT and the Bangalore Water Board.

He is the fourth minister in the Yeddyurappa Cabinet whose name is involved in a scam. Krishnaiah Setty, H Halappa and Ramachandra Gowda were sacked from the state Cabinet over last few months after their names were linked with illegal sale of land, rape and irregularities in government recruitments.

"One Ramajannapa of Bangalore was approached by Katta Jagdish, corporator of the BBMP and he was directed not to give evidence against him to the Lokayukta," said R K Dutta, ADGP, Lokayukta.
