Anju, a bronze medalist in 2003, failed to repeat that performance.
New Delhi: Long jumper Anju Bobby George has finished ninth at the World Athletic Championships in Osaka on Tuesday.
Anju, a bronze medalist in 2003, failed to repeat that performance. She had a best jump of only 6.53 metres, which was lower than her qualifying mark of 6.60 metres.
The gold went to Olympic gold medalist Tatyana Lebedeva of Russia who jumped 7.03 metres.
Anju was nowhere near her personal best of 6.83 metres, which would have put her in fourth position.
Anju has not had a great run in the last two years, slipping from World No. 6 to World No. 40. But this performance will surely increase her ranking.
