As many as 2,01,032 children between two and five years of age, who come to anganwadis for nutritious meals, would be given two sets of coloured clothes during the current financial year.  In the first phase, the scheme announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa would be implemented in the districts of Chennai, Vellore, Tiruchi, Theni and Dindigul, at an expenditure of Rs 4.30 crore.

The measure is aimed at encouraging children to come to these centres to get non-formal pre-school education, an official release here said. Of the 54,439 anganwadi centres in the State, smokeless kitchens have been set up in 16,645 centres. 

On May 14, the CM announced that during the current year, 5,000 more anganwadi centres in the State would get smokeless kitchens with gas connections, gas stoves and pressure cookers, at Rs 3.20 crore. As many as 31 lakh persons including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent  girls and aged persons have been benefited.
