“Am I a criminal or a terrorist? Why is the police department harassing me to serve the suspension order like this ?” fumed suspended Rampachodavaram ASP Dr B Naveen Kumar to the police team who were on a ‘hunt’ to serve the suspension orders to him.
Naveen, who was ‘absconding’ from his rented residence at Danavaipeta since Wednesday, was ‘apprehended’ while he was boarding a bus at Kotipally bus stand in Hyderabad on Thursday. He was taken out of the bus and taken to the police guest house, where the police team made a vain bid to serve him the suspension orders. He didnot agree to accept the orders in the state capital and insisted that the orders be served at his rented residence or office. The team agreed to it and escorted him back to Danavaipeta.
However, seeing police bandobust at his residence he lost his cool and questioned the officers why special squads are moving around his house like this.
“The department is treating me like a goonda or a terrorist. When the suspension order could be served at my residence and office, then what was the need to chase me like this? he inquired.
As per the norms, if the officer concerned is unavailable, then the order is pasted at his residence and office. However, sources said that since the top brass was keen that he be served the order personally, the police team was on his pursuit.
Finally, at 2.am, the police team succeeded in convincing him to accept the orders after which Naveen handed over his service revolver to the team.
Speaking to the media, he maintained that two persons had allegedly scooted him in a vehicle towards Hyderabad by saying that they were taking him to the SP’s office.
“ Fortunately, I had my weapon which helped me in returning back,” he said. However, he didnot clarify this statement of his. The entire police machinery of Eluru range took to the heels to serve Naveen the suspension orders. A team comprising additional SP, Vardarajulu, four DSP rank officers and a few Inspectors were pressed into the ‘operation’.
Initial inputs said that Naveen was on his way to Vizag, from where he would take a flight to Hyderabad and so, surveillance was stepped up on the route. However, the next input, which turned out to be correct, stated that Naveen might take a bus to Hyderabad and hence, police parties were dispatched for the bus stand.
Naveen Kumar, a 2008 batch IPS officer, reportedly fled from his house on Wednesday morning and the officials, who had come to serve him the orders, told the higher-ups that he had ‘absconded’ from his house and that they could not serve the suspension order to him.
Sources said that Naveen Kumar had locked his rented residence and left for Hyderabad on Thursday.
