Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has termed McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel as his main rival for Driver's world championship this season.
"Hamilton and Vettel are the drivers we have focused on since the beginning. They are the biggest challengers, but all of the teams are close," Alonso told Brazil's Totalrace. "Hopefully, they will fight among themselves and not one of them will dominate."
Alonso also said the difference of points between him and the other drivers is not too much and can be overhauled by others in season's remaining races. "I think the distance between the top five, top six is not impossible to recover. You just need one good race or two good races and you are up there."
Despite lying at No. 4 in the Teams' standings, Ferrari has been tipped as the key factor behind Alonso's success this season, and the Spanish driver says any mistake can prove very costly to their title challenge. "Sometimes we know we can be on the podium, other times maybe it’s only seventh. But we cannot afford to make any mistakes or do anything that we will regret."
