CHENNAI: Have you ever wondered why Swarovski crystals are different from any other kind? If your answer is no, you should have made it to the recent Swarvoski fashion show held in the city. At the show at Taj Coromandel, the guests oohed and aahed at some of the tantalising crystals that were showcased on stage. The handmade necklaces and pendants definitely took everyone’s breath away. Apart from their crystal jewellery, the international crystal brand also showcased their innovative creations on saris. In association with iconic sari houses and fashion designers from the textile hub of south India, Swarovksi crystals made style statements on pattu saris, Pochampally, and traditionally-weaved Ilkal saris. Saris were not all that were seen on the ramp. Little black dresses and party wear adorned with luminescent crystals stole the show.  Also on display at the catwalk event were some of the most original and exquisitely designed creations of the traditional regional drapes from sari houses such as Nalli, Pothys Sarees, Deepam Sarees and Seematti Silks. The fashion show also displayed modern blouses, Kamarbandh (waist bands) and accessories, all embellished with Swarovski crystals. Apart form sari houses, designers Chaitanya Rao, Deepika Govind, Manoviraj Khosla, Rehane, Suhani Pittie and Vivek Karunakaran also displayed their collection, adding sparkle to the show. The crystal necklaces and pendants, especially handcrafted by Punita Trikka for Nalli and Pothys Sarees, along with works of art from the jewellery store Little Shilpa for Seematti Silks, were a visual treat. Deepam Sarees displayed an array of bridal saris that had Swarovski elements encrusted on the pallus of the saris. Actress Sneha, draped in a customised bright red sari, glittering with  Swarvoski, provided the glamour quotient for the evening. While Nalli showcased the rich collections of Swarozki crystals on the Kanchivarums, the Seemati saris kept it simple, sticking with whites and pinks, teamed with a few elegant stones.
