CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Wednesday said his party would take it as betrayal of Tamils should India vote against the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).Talking to reporters here, he pointed out that the Centre could not respond to the queries raised by party MPs Kanimozhi and Tiruchi Siva on why it could not intervene in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka while it did so in case of Bangladesh.Asked whether DMK would withdraw support to the Centre if the UPA government decided to back Lanka at the UNHRC, Karunanidhi maintained that he would not be able to take a call on the issue and that the executive committee of the party would take the decision.DMK organising secretary and Lok Sabha member T K S Elangovan said that the resolution was already mellowed down. “We will keep pressing for India’s support to the resolution in the ongoing UNHRC meet censuring Lanka on Ealam War crimes,” he said. There will be no looking back on the issue, he asserted.Meanwhile, MDMK spokesperson Nanmaran alleged that the DMK was hand-in-glove with the Congress during the last phase of Eelam War IV, which precipitated the humanitarian crisis.
