Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday directed all Samajwadi Party MLAs to donate Rs 10 lakh each from their local area development fund for relief of Uttrakhand tragedy victims. The MLAs have also been asked to individually give Rs 50,000 each, while every minister has been asked to donate Rs 1 lakh, the Chief Minister said in Lucknow.
"I have asked all MLAs to give Rs 10 lakh from their local area development funds for Uttrakhand relief. Besides, they have also been asked to donate Rs 50,000 each individually. Similarly, the ministers have been asked to donate Rs 1 lakh each personally," Akhilesh said. The SP has 224 MLAs in Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
He said the state had already given Rs 25 crore for Uttrakhand flood relief, and will be releasing Rs 350 crore due for pension after Uttarakhand separated from UP. The CM also hailed Indian forces for carrying out gallant rescue operations in Uttarakhand against all odds.
In reply to a question, he said that those doctors, who are willing to provide services in Uttrakahand, would be sent there. If any such help is sought in this regard, UP would do whatever it could, Akhilesh said.
On flood situation in UP, Yadav said that the government is alert and keeping an eye on the situation.
