AIMPLB Calls Triple Talaq Bill ‘Dhokha’, Says BJP Aims to Ban Entire Institution of Talaq
The Board is set to hold a detailed discussion on the Bill in a three-day plenary in Hyderabad from February 9 to 11, and discuss the “flaws” of the Bill.

Hyderabad: Calling Triple Talaq Bill a ‘dhokha’ (sham) by the BJP government, All India Muslim Personal Law Board said on Thursday that the Bill aims to ban the entire institution of 'talaq' (divorce) which is a part of Islamic law.

The Board is set to hold a detailed discussion on the Bill in a three-day plenary in Hyderabad from February 9 to 11, and discuss the “flaws” of the Bill.

“We are not opposing the bill, which is pending in Parliament. The Board just wants certain flaws in the draft to be removed, which are also against the fundamental rights and Supreme Court verdict. It is being said that the bill is to stop instant triple talaq, but indirectly it aims to ban the entire institution of talaq, which is a part of our Islamic law and even recognised by the Supreme Court,” AIMPLB spokesperson Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman Sajjad Nomani said.

Accusing the ruling BJP government of bringing the Bill without discussion and in a ‘dictatorial way’, Nomani said, “We are always ready to talk to the government and discuss the Bill. We wrote letters to the PM appraising him of the flaws and requested to meet him. But unfortunately, his office has not responded till date. We will fight for our rights using all democratic means.”

The AIMPLB had earlier announced that they will boycott anyone who gives instant triple talaq, which is also not allowed in Islam and is against the Supreme Court verdict. The Board, through various means, has been creating awareness in the community.

Alleging the central government of doing injustice to Muslim men and women through this Bill, AIMPLB is appealing all political parties to support them and oppose the flawed Bill in Rajya Sabha.

In the three-day meeting, over 600 Muslim scholars from all over the country will participate and finalise a roadmap on the protection of Muslim personal laws.
