Mumbai: After months of conducting a preliminary inquiry into the controversial Adarsh society scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation has finally registered an FIR against 13 people. Former chief minister of Maharashtra Ashok Chavhan's name has also been mentioned in the FIR.
Among those named in the FIR are promoters of the Adarsh co-operative housing society, former and serving bureaucrats, retired army officials and politicians.
Some of those named in the FIR are RC Thakur and Retired Brig Wangchu, Retired defence personnel AR Kumar, Retd Brig Ramesh Chandra Sharma, Retd Brig Pitambar Kishore Rampal, IAS officers Pradeep Vyas, IA Kundan, PV Deshmukh, Jairaj Phatak, Subhash Lalla, Ramanand Tiwari and former Congress legislator Kanahiyalal Gidwani.
The accused have been charged of criminal conspiracy, forgery, and misappropriation amongst other sections of the IPC, and the prevention of corruption act.
The FIR was submitted to the special CBI court in a sealed envelope.
Now that the preliminary inquiry is over and the CBI has registered a case. The actual investigation into the controversial Adarsh co-operative housing society will now be set into motion.
One can expect series of arrests in days to come but for CBI the real challenge will be to string evidence to successfully implicate the accused in the court of law.
