In a horrific incident, three Class 12 girl students suffered burns as a 23-year-old hurled acid at one of them on the Kadaba Pre-university college campus in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka on Monday.
The incident took place at 9.55 am, when the accused, identified as Abin, a native of Kerala, entered the college wearing the uniform. Abin has been arrested, while the survivor is out of danger.
Addressing the media, Dakshina Kannada SP CB Rishyanth said, “Around 9:55 am, a Kerala-based man, Abin, attacked a girl with acid. Two girls sitting beside her also were affected. Those two have suffered minor injuries. The prime target suffered burns to her face. She is out of danger. The accused had been secured.”
The three were immediately shifted to Kadaba government hospital for treatment and later to the AJ Private hospital. The SP and DySP of Dakshina Kannada district surveyed the premises where the incident took place.
The SP further revealed that both the accused and the girl are from Mallapuram in Kerala and their relationship could be one of the reasons behind the attack. The police is also probing how the accused got the uniform.
District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundurao assured that the government will assist the girl. “I learnt about the incident this morning. The SP called me this morning and a few of our party leaders too informed me. It’s a cruel incident. The youth is from Kerala and the police is probing why he did it. Love could be the reason. Such attacks on women are painful. We will assist her in leading her life. I will visit her soon,” said the minister.
