The Crime Branch has arrested the  accused in a spirit smuggling case, who was at large for the last 10 years, from Mangalore on Thursday night. The arrested person is Anvar, alias Abu Bekar, 35, native of Kasargod.

The accused was involved in smuggling 199 cans of spirit to Mannar in 2002 and a case was  registered by the police in this regard. The accused had been absconding since then. The Crime Branch had arrested two others, George and Santhosh in 2004.The arrest was made by the Hurt and Homicide wing of the Crime Branch, investigating Mithila Mohan murder case. Anvar was the cab driver of Mithila Rajan, owner of the Mithila Bar Hotel, who was shot dead at his house in 2006. But after interrogation, the Hurt and Homicide wing officials could not find Anwar’s involvement in the murder of Mithila Mohan and was handed over to the Organised Crime Wing of the Crime Branch, investigating the spirit smuggling case.
