In order to throw light upon the ignored monuments in the city, a heritage walk was organised on Sunday morning by The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach), Hyderabad chapter. A stroll in the historical monument of Purani Idgah located in Old city’s Edi Bazaar area was the first initiative towards highlighting legacy of many such non-documented monuments in a dilapidated state. The walk from the main entrance of Purani Idgah, a monument which is believed to be more than 300 years old, ended with a festive spirit. The most attractive aspect of this monument is its two astounding pillars having resemblance to the Charminar. Chenna Reddy, director of Archaeology department, Jayesh Ranjan, principal secrectary of Tourism and the City police participated in this initiative. “This walk is not similar to other social walks and the purpose of this is to explore the beauties of the unknown historical monuments which need our attention,” said Yusuf, trustee of Purani Idgah. The Madani family, who are the trustee of the place provided the participants with Sheer Khorma to promote a festive spirit. The gathering discussed about the different monuments in the city which is not popular and needs maintenance for promoting tourism here. “Intach looks forward to expanding the community to spread awareness and document as many monuments as possible,” said Anuradha Reddy, the convener of Intach, Hyderabad chapter.
