THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Just hours after 100 sovereigns of gold were robbed from a house right under the nose of City Police Commissioner’s office, another massive burglary was reported from the district on Sunday night. This time it occurred at Sona Jewellery, Balaramapuram, in which the burglars decamped with two kg of gold ornaments. The theft was detected when the shop, situated near the Balaramapuram police station, was opened on Monday morning. The police suspect that the theft took place on Sunday night. They said that the burglars gained entry to the shop by cutting open the grills. “Though it was a Sunday, the shop remained open till 8.30 p.m. From the modus operandi, we suspect some professional burglars behind the act. We also suspect the involvement of an inter-state gang,” said Neyyatinkara Circle Inspector B S Sajimon. The ornaments were stolen from the showcase. The display boards were strewn all over the floor. Top police officials, including Southern Range IG Sheikh Dervesh Saheb and Rural SP Thomaskutty visited the spot. The police also said that the actual quantity of gold stolen was yet to be assessed. The shop is owned by Ayub Khan and Babu Jan, both hailing from Balaramapuram.
