New Delhi: India's legendary singer Mohammad Rafi, who has inspired music enthusiasts for decades, kicked off his singing career by crooning the notes that a 'fakir' (Muslim saint) sung in his village. Born on December 24, 1924, Rafi not only sang classical numbers, but also patriotic and romantic songs. But the popularity of Rafi's party numbers, which still finds several takers, remains unmatched. During his singing career, Rafi lent his voice to Bollywood megastars including Amitabh Bachchan, Shammi Kapoor, Dharmendra and Dev Anand.
Honoured with the Padma Shri in 1967, Rafi has numerous hit songs to his credit including several duets with famous playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. We have come up with a playlist of his most popular songs on his birth anniversary.
