City police have rescued 68 child labourers from Bihar and Nepal who were forcibly employed at bag making units near Bangalore and arrested seven persons in connection with the case.
Raids were conducted at four places along with an NGO called Justice ~~amp;amp; Care, on Monday after receiving a compliant that children from other states were being forcefully employed without providing any basic amenities, City Crime Branch (CCB) said.
Seven persons - four from Bihar, two from Nepal and one from Bangalore - have been arrested and cases registered against them under the Child Labour Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Bonded Labour Act and Right to Education Act.
Search is on to arrest 13 other accused involved in the case, currently in hiding, they said in a statement.
The CCB officials said the accused are said to have brought children between the 10 and 18 age group from Bihar and Nepal after paying a token amount to their parents some months ago, and they were forced to work from 9 AM to 12 midnight.
The children were made to live in inhumane conditions without any basic amenities like proper food and toilet facilities and no proper remuneration, the statement said.
