A total of 65 officials in 42 government offices in the district were found missing from work during a surprise visit on Friday by senior officials, including the District Magistrate.

Directions were given to the offices concerned to issue show-cause notices to the employees and stop their one day's salary/honorarium, DM Jagat Raj Tripathi said. The visiting team also included CDO Anand Singh and all SDMs. Talking about the visit, Tripathi said all heads of the department have been directed to be present in their offices for redresses of public grievances.

The Divisional Commissioner of Faizabad division Vipin Kumar Dvivedi had two days back issued a letter to the DMs of the division, including Amethi, to ensure presence of all heads of the department in their offices.

Meanwhile, local MLA and state Minister of Mines Operation Gayatri Prasad Prajapati on Friday directed officials to take action against the contractors responsible for the delay in the repair of Amethi-Sangrampur road. The road was dug up for repairing at least six months ago, causing difficulties to the public.

The minister issued the order during a post-poll review meeting in Amethi, said DM Tripathi, who attended the meeting. Tripathi said he apprised the minister with the development works taking place in the area. The minister also instructed officials to take notice of the poor state of potable water and power supplies, the DM said.
