BANGALORE: The Fast-track court on Saturday convicted six members of the banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) for their involvement in the terrorist attack on Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in 2005.Fast Track Court Judge C V Revankar convicted the accused under various provisions of the Indian Arms Act, 1969, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 and the Indian Penal Code. The sentence will be pronounced on December 19 after hearing arguments by the prosecution and defence.The court convicted Mohammed Riaz ur Rehman of Nalgonda in Andhra Pradesh, Afsar Pasha (33) from Chintamani, Mehboob Ibrahim Saab Chopdar (41) from Guledagudda in Badami taluk, Noorulla Khan (30) from Chintamani, Mohammed Irfan (28) from Kurubarapet in Mulbagal and Nazim Uddin alias Munna (30) from Chintamani who are currently lodged in Bangalore Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara on charges of plotting the terror attack and waging war against the country. The court however acquitted another man. “The accused have been held guilty of offences punishable under various sections of laws and convicted accordingly,” the judge said. M C Puri, former Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi professor was killed while four others were injured in the attack on participants of an international seminar. The attackers fired at the participants with automatic assault rifles.Deputy commissioner of police, intelligence V S D’Souza and a special investigation officer had raided various places and arrested them and filed a suo motu complaint in Sadashivanagar police station in 2006.
