Tamil Nadu would add 3,000 MW of power through conventional sources in the next six months, which would help ease the power crisis in the State, K Venugopal, Member, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission said here on Tuesday.
He was addressing the awareness session on ‘Renewable Energy Purchase Obligation and Renewable Energy Certificate’ organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry. K Venugopal said the power consumption of Tamil Nadu has been growing at the rate of 8-9 per cent on an average. The State proposes capacity addition of 3,000 MW in the next 6 months through its power projects in north Chennai, Vallur and Mettur.
The North Chennai project, Vallur and Mettur power projects will help generate more power, he added.
The State would also harness its renewable energy, especially wind energy, which has the potential to generate around 7,000 MW of power. Keeping in view the huge renewable energy potential, dedicated transmission lines would be commissioned from Tirunelveli to Kayatar, Dharmapuri and Hosur, connecting various parts of the State.
P Krishnakumar, member, Renewable Energy Panel, CII TN, said, “The renewable energy industry is trying to make a difference to the environment by producing green and clean energy, helping climate change initiatives, apart from adding much-needed capacities.
