HYDERABAD: Three journalists working in a Telugu vernacular daily, owned by an MP, were arrested by Malkajgiri police after they allegedly abused and manhandled policemen. The scuffle erupted after policemen found them standing on the road after midnight and asked them to leave.Around 12.30 p.m on Saturday, the three journalists Abdul Rehman, Hussain Shareef and Mallikarjuna Rao were standing near an ATM at Gouthamnagar in Malkajgiri police station limits when two policemen, who were on patrolling duty, spotted them and asked them to leave the place.Malkajgiri division assistant commissioner of police Radha Kishan Rao told Express the three journalists, who were in a drunken condition, reportedly manhandled one policeman and humiliated them using abusive language. With one of the policemen alerting the subinspector, he rushed to the spot, arrested the three and took them to police station."After shifting the three journalists, police made them undergo a breathalyser test which revealed they were drunk. They also manhandled the policemen who urged them to leave the place," the ACP said. Malkajgiri police registered a case against the three journalists under Section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC.Meanwhile, scores of journalists staged dharna in front of Malkajgiri police station in protest against the arrest of the three journalists.
