MADURAI: The Madurai City police have arrested three youths, who were allegedly involved in a recent attempted robbery at a branch of the Bank of Baroda. As only some components of computer hardware were found missing, cops initially suspected insiders’ hand in the case. However, later the accused told them that they decamped with computer hardware of the bank fearing CCTV images could have been stored in them.Police said three persons M Sureshkumar of, Madurai, J Sham Kirubakar of Thoothukudi and R Mummoorthy of Virattipathu, were arrested on Thursday, in connection with the Feb attempted robbery 22.He said, Sureshkumar, a call taxi driver, entered the bank on the night of Feb 22, after reconnaissance. He got in but could not break the lock of the safe. Then he called his associate Sham Kirupakar, who allegedly warned him that his image would have been recorded in the bank’s CCTV and advised him to steal that also. Sureshkumar decamped with two LCD monitors, a CPU and six hard disks. He then approached another friend, Mummoorthy who owns a mobile phone shop, to sell the computer accessories.Forensic experts figured out the accused by using the fingerprints lifted from the bank which matched with that of an accused at a robbery at Kochadai in 2005.Based on this, the police arrested Sureshkumar and his associates and recovered the hardware and the car.
