Here is some good news for 1,09,000 employees of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The State Government has hiked their basic salary by 10 per cent with effect from January 2012.
“Merging the hike on basic pay with that on other allowances, the total hike will be around 22 per cent,” Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister R Ashok said at a press conference on Saturday.
The revision in salary of the employees will be an additional burden of Rs 187.10 crore on KSRTC per year. Additional allowances will add Rs 20 crore a year to the salary bill, Ashok said.
He said they would be procuring new buses for the corporation.
Tax Exemption Sought
“We have sought tax exemption from the State Government for the NWKRTC,” said Ashok while explaining how the corporation is planning to recover the losses incurred by the NWKRTC and NEKRTC.
“Tax exemption has already been given to the Gulbarga division four years ago and it has continued. A fund of `50 crore has been granted to the Hubli division to purchase new buses. Out of this, Rs 25 crore have already been released. The NWKRTC should be able to get out of the loss in two or three years and come at par with the BMTC and KSRTC,” he explained.
DLs at Colleges
Driving licences (DL) will be issued to students at their colleges now.
“Students need not go to the regional transport offices (RTO) to procure their licences. They can easily get it in their campuses,” Ashok said.
