A 16-year-old student has alleged that she was pushed out off a moving KSRTC bus here on Wednesday by the conductor after accusing her of using a fake bus pass. The charge was, however, denied by officials.
The victim, Harshapoornima, a student of JSS Women’s College, was returning home from college when the incident occurred.
She boarded the #73 at Saraswathipuram Fire Station and showed her annual bus pass to conductor Prasad. Upon scrutiny, Prasad told Harshapoornima that the pass was fake. A heated argument ensued between the two, with Harshapoornima insisting that she had paid Rs 1,200 for the bus pass, which was issued by the KSRTC to the college.
Embarrassed, she even offered to pay for the ticket. She said she would get down at the next stop and demanded her bus pass be returned, but the conductor refused.
By this time the bus had reached Bake Point and before the bus could come to a complete halt, Prasad reportedly pushed her out. However, KSRTC divisional controller Srinivas said he was unaware of the incident.
When contacted, Transport Minister R Ashok said: “Absence of an official seal led to the confusion. According to information, the girl was not pushed out of a moving bus, but was made to get down. Officials from the police and Transport Department met the girl’s parents. After verifying the bus pass ledger, we have issued a fresh pass with the seal. The matter has been amicably settled. Nevertheless, I have ordered an inquiry and necessary action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
