BANGALORE: It's that time of the year again time for the annual Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh. Decked with variant colours and variety of blooming flowers the annual flower show has been a major attraction, not just for people of Karnataka, but from other states as well.Adding to the charm this year is the commemoration of 100 years of flower show. Speaking during the inauguration on Friday, Sharadamma, Mayor, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) appreciated the Horticulture Department employees for their hard work in putting up the 20 feet high with 30 feet width replica of the famous Bahai temple of Delhi Lotus temple at the Glass House. About two lakh carnations, 75,000 roses, tuberoses and more than 10,000 ornamental leaves in varied colours are used for its beautification.Tribute to Lotus TempleC S Mala, member of Bahai Community, said, "2011 is the silver jubilee of the Lotus Temple and the replica here is one of the best tribute." Those visiting the show can have a view of the IndoAmerical hybrid variety, temperate flowers mainly agapanthus, lily, alstroemeria, prenula and cyclamen from Ooty, and above 15 varieties of anthurium from Coorg will be displayed in the Glass House. Besides the flower show, flower arrangements competition will be held on August 6.As any other year, the home garden competition for raising fruits and vegetables among various government sector enterprises and private enterprises will also be conducted.Shaswati, a 28-year-old tourist from Kolkata said, "I did not know that there was flower show going on. I had come to Bangalore for a vacation to my cousin's place. I had heard so much of this flower show through media, so here I could witness, it feels very good."Meanwhile, speaking to Express about the special security arrangement during the show, P Hemalatha, director, Horticulture Department said, "About 100 police personnel have been deployed. Depending on the crowd we will increase the security, especially during weekend. In addition to 20 regular securities, 30 homeguards and 40 security members have been stationed. We have put up two CCTVs at glass house and few of then at the entrance to ensure safety."The flower show will be on till August 15.
