Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal has been performing phenomenally well at the box office despite its controversial depiction of violence and misogyny. However, the ones condemning it for its content and others finding it intriguing have made the film a huge commercial success. One man grabbing all the headlines is Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director of Animal.
With just two films, Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, Sandeep Reddy Vanga became one of the most prominent filmmakers in the country. While we all know the director that Vanga is today, only a few are aware of the struggle he has had to go through.
Born on December 25, 1981, in Telangana, Sandeep Reddy Vanga was the younger son of his parents, Prabhakar Reddy and Sujatha. He did his early schooling at Platinum Jubilee High School, Warangal, and moved to Hyderabad after class 8 standard for his further education. He pursued a degree in physiotherapy. As his interest in filmmaking developed over time, he joined an International Film School in Sydney.
After completing the filmmaking course, he returned to India and began working as an assistant for an established director. He faced multiple rejections by several directors. Kranthi Madhav allowed him to work as the assistant director in the film titled Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju.
In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, the Kabir Singh director opened up about his struggles and said, “When I went to meet Puri, I was told to leave my resume at the watchman’s, which I didn’t. I couldn’t meet Rajamouli either but he, too, had no vacancy.”
Sandeep Reddy Vanga is married to Manisha Reddy. The couple is blessed with two kids, a daughter and a son. The director rose to prominence with his debut film Arjun Reddy, headlined by Vijay Deverakonda. His second film Kabir Singh also became a blockbuster hit of the year. It featured Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
Animal features Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Bobby Deol in the lead roles. The film, within a week, minted an astounding Rs 563.3 crore at the global box office.
