Simple Steps to Split an Uber Fare
Simple Steps to Split an Uber Fare
This wikiHow teaches you how to split an Uber fare evenly among riders. Each rider contributing to the cost must have the Uber app, their own account, and a valid payment method. All riders sharing a trip's cost must accept the split request in their own Uber app(s) before the ride ends.
Things You Should Know
  • If everyone in the group has an Uber account, you can easily split the bill within the app.
  • You can't split fares when using UberPOOL.
  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen during a ride to add the other ride members and split the fare.

Make sure all parties have an Uber account. Each person sharing the cost of this trip will need the the Uber app, as well as an active account with a valid payment method attached. In addition to their portion of the fare, each rider will also be charged a small fee ($0.25 in the US) for splitting the cost. All riders paying for this trip will be charged the same amount.

Request an Uber ride. Have one person in your party use the Uber app to request a ride. Once a driver accepts the request, the person who requested the ride can move to the next step. It's not possible to split fares when using uberPOOL.

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen during a trip. You can do this before or after you actually get into the vehicle, as long as the trip is confirmed. A menu will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Tap Split Fare next to "Riding with someone?" It's in the menu near the bottom of the screen.

Enter the name or phone number of the other rider(s). Uber will search your contacts based on name or phone number so that you can send an invite to split the fare.

Send the request. Once the request is sent, all recipients will receive a notification from Uber with the details of the split fare request. If a rider doesn't receive the notification, they may have disabled Uber notifications. They should be able to see the notification upon launching the Uber app.

Tap Accept to accept a split fare request. All riders who received the notification will need to accept the request before the trip ends. Once the trip is complete, each rider will be charged for their portion of the total cost. If a rider doesn't accept the request before the trip ends, the person who requested the trip will be charged for that rider's portion of the fare.
