New Delhi: Besides making Delhi Dynamos the champions in the coming Indian Super League (ISL) season, the new play-cum-manager of the franchise, Brazil legend Roberto Carlos, wants the standard of football in India to hit an upward curve.
"I am delighted to be part of the Delhi Dynamos team and confident that we will be able to play aggressive, skilful and positive game. I am looking forward to this stint as an opportunity to teach new playing techniques to the young Indian players and raise their fitness levels," he said at an ISL event here on Thursday.
Carlos' coaching experience includes stints with Turkish sides Sivasspor and Akhisar Belediyespor and he's hopeful he can carry on the good work in the ISL.
"It's the revolution in Indian football that has made me come here. My experience as a coach has been amazing in the past thanks to the coaches I have worked under. One thing I can assure fans is that under me, Delhi will play attractive and dynamic football.
The highlight of the event was the video clippings where Carlos' Real Madrid and Brazilian team-mates wished him good luck for his new job with ISL. Legends like Zinedine Zidane, Brazilian Ronaldo, Kaka and David Beckham congratulated Carlos and offered their support to Delhi Dynamos.
After finally putting pen to paper in the glitzy ceremony, Carlos stated: "Indians have always been passionate about soccer and Brazil has always enjoyed tremendous support here, so I feel happy that I will make a meaningful contribution towards building a world class team in ISL.
"It's the revolution in Indian football that has made me come here. All things are positive. We [Brazil] have done great things for football in history and for the growth of football, we will be there," he added.
When asked about Delhi's plan in ISL drafts to be held on Friday, he said we have a long list and the plan has been set.
