London: Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas won't hesitate in dropping Fernando Torres if his goal drought starts to get in the way of a title push.
Torres was overlooked by Vicente del Bosque in mid-week as Spain beat Liechtenstein to secure their place at Euro 2012, not even making the bench, while replacement Alvaro Negredo scored twice.
Since moving to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in January, the striker has scored just once in 21 games.
Villas-Boas believes the 50-million-Pound striker's class remains, and is hopeful Torres comes back with a bang, but will not let his search for form affect the team.
He told The Daily Mirror: "He didn't lose his talent because he's played 21 games and only scored one goal."
"The talent is there and the question is regaining confidence."
"That comes from training and from time and finding the back of the net, so we have to persist."
"But it can't compromise the team. It can never compromise the objectives of the team and the things you want to achieve."
"It's not just about scoring goals, it's about creating opportunities and he's been doing that."
"The moment it compromises the team it has to come to an end."
After being dropped by the Spanish coach, Villas-Boas has warned the 27-year-old Torres to up his game if he wants to stay in his plans.
He continued: "I have no problem dropping players. I don't make a first-choice team, just the choice for the next game."
"Fernando started the first three games and Didier came off the bench."
"We make choices regarding what we see. I have no problem dropping players."
"From the feedback he gives me, what is most important from this player is not just what he has achieved in terms of goals but what he is telling you."
