Salogoacar, Pailan Arrows held in I-League
While Chirag United secured a 1-1 draw against Salgaocar, Mumbai FC rallied to hold Pailan Arrows 1-1.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chirag United Kerala held Salgoacar to a 1-1 draw in their I-League match at the University Stadium here on Saturday while in Kolkata, Mumbai FC rallied to secure a 1-1 draw against Pailan Arrows.

Salgoacar, who led in the first half with a goal by forward Marcus Mascarenhas in 29th minute and looked like taking home an away victory, were jolted by an 88th minute strike by Chirag's Anil Kumar.

Kumar blasted a left side pass from Usman Ahik into the net to level the scores and Chirag, who missed three chances to score in the second half, did enough in the remaining few minutes to ensure a draw.

Mascarenhas was adjudged the Man of the Match. Following Saturday's match, Salgoacar have 9 points in their kitty while Chirag have five.

Meanwhile, at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, city-based Pailan Arrows failed to hold on to their lead and settled for a 1-1 draw against Mumbai FC in the eighth round.

Placed second from bottom in the league and fighting relegation from the premier division, Sukwinder Singh's boys once again failed to capitalise on home advantage.

Both the teams were struggling at the bottom with Mumbai FC at 11th position having 7 points, while Pailan at 13th position with 4 points from 8 matches.

After a barren first half when both sides made unsuccessful forays, Pailan wrested the initiative and forged ahead in the 58th minute through their forward Milan Singh (1-0).

Stung by the reverse, the Mumbai side went all out and forced a series of raids to earn the equaliser 20 minutes later and thus deny Pailan a win.

Pailan are yet to taste victory in this year's I-league like HAL Bangalore, who are now at the bottom of the table.
