New Delhi: Russia beat England 2-1 in their Euro 2008 qualification match in Moscow on Wednesday, which now leaves England's qualification in doubt.
England forward Wayne Rooney ended his international goal drought by putting the visitors ahead as England kept up the pressure, untill Russia scored in the 68th minute.
The penalty kick was put away easily enough by Roman Pavlyuchenko, and he returned later to take Russia into a 2-1 lead, outpacing his opposition to tap the ball into the net.
Czech Republic, too, had a great outing on qualification night as they shocked Germany 3-0 in their Group D encounter.
Some good passing and a final push by Libor Sionko saw the Czechs go 1-0 up. The German defence was all over the place as Marek Matejovsky gave Czech Republic a 2-0 lead.
And great footwork by Jaroslav Plasil meant Czech Republic had another goal against the triple world champions. Germany failed to pull even one goal back as the scoreline remained unchanged till the end of the game.
