Real Madrid have announced the signing of German international Mesut Oezil from Werder Bremen.

Madrid: Spanish giants Real Madrid have announced the signing of German international Mesut Oezil from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

The World Cup 2010 star had been linked with a move to Madrid throughout the summer and will link up with international team-mate Sami Khedira at the Bernabeu.

Bild quotes the Werder Bremen's sporting director Klaus Allofs as saying: "We respect Mesut's wish to go now and take the next step in his career."

Earlier on Tuesday the 21-year-old's father confirmed that they have agreed personal terms with Madrid and later on Allofs threatened that if Madrid wanted to sign Oezil, then they must do so before Wednesday or else they would include the playmaker in their squad for the Champions League first-leg playoff match against Sampdoria.

Oezil had just one year left on his contract with Werder and would have left the club on a free transfer next summer had a move not materialised.
