Premier League side Chelsea posted their third win of the ongoing campaign with a 3-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Nicolas Jackson struck twice in the first half to give his side the lead before the break, while Cole Palmer added the side’s third right after the resumption of play. The Blues held on to the advantage to claim all points on offer on the road.
Enzo Maresca opted to field Robert Sanchez at goal, with a defensive foil of Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana ahead of the shot-stopper. Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandes and Palmer were deployed in midfield, while Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke were on the flanks. Jackson started upfront just as Marsecas had suggested during the pre-game presser on Friday.
West Ham boss Julien Lopetegui fielded Alphonse Areola in goal, with Konstantinos Mavropanos, Edson Alvarez and Max Kilman in a three-man defense. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson were deployed as rowing fullbacks, with Guido Rodriguez and Lucas Paqueta in the middle. Mohamed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville formed the three-pronged attack for the Hammers.
Chelsea went ahead in the fourth minute of the game as West Ham were caught napping by a quick freekick that put Jackson through on goal as the Senegalese striker put the ball into the back of the net through the legs of Areola to edge ahead.
Jackson doubled his side’s lead with his second of the night in the 18th minute with a finish with the outer part of his foot.
West Ham were denied a penalty shout in the first half as Summerville was brought down inside the box by Fofana, but the spot kick wasn’t awarded to the home side after a VAR check.
Jackson turned provider after the break as he set Palmer up perfectly for the Englishman to beat Areola from just outside the box to stretch the Blues’ lead to three goals.
Joao Felix nearly added another with the last attempt of the game, but his shot went wide of the post as Chelsea clinched all three points on offer with a convincing 0-3 win on the road.
