Nothing Happened: Pep Guardiola's Take on the Confrontation Between Kyle Walker and Neal Maupay
Kyle Walker spoke to Jarred Gillet seemingly furious at Neal Maupay during the Premier League game between Manchester City and Brentford.

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has finally addressed the heated exchange that took place between his defender Kyle Walker and Brentford striker Neal Maupay in a Premier League game. During Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Brentford in their previous game, Walker was seen having a fierce altercation with Maupay. Nothing was revealed as to what led to the verbal battle between the two or the words that were exchanged between them. As per a TalkSPORT report, this is what Guardiola said about the incident, “Nothing happened”. As per the same report, Brentford boss Thomas Frank was also asked about the duel. “I haven’t asked him [Maupay],” was Frank’s response when asked about the incident.

The Premier League game between Manchester City and Brentford came to a halt when Kyle Walker marched over to match-official Jarred Gillet. The full-back was seemingly furious at the Bees goal-scorer Neal Maupay before taking a throw-in. This led to the referee having a word with Maupay who appeared to be confused before taking a look back into Walker’s direction. While nothing could be made out of what had occurred, Pep Guardiola was seen calming his player down after the exchange.

This is not the first time that Neal Maupay has gotten involved in a verbal spat with another player in the Premier League. Last week, during Brentford’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, Maupay engaged in a confrontation with English midfielder James Maddison. Maupay had mimicked Maddison’s darts celebration after scoring a goal which certainly was not appreciated by the Spurs midfielder. A heated discussion also took place between them.

Despite scoring Brentford’s only goal in the game against Manchester City, Neal Maupay was substituted by Thomas Frank in stoppage time. The Bees striker was already under the referee’s booking and a second yellow card could have left the home side one man down. Maupay was later seen having a brief discussion with Pep Guardiola after the final whistle.

Overall, it proved to be a good outing for Manchester City who came from behind to seal a dominant 3-1 victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. The opening goal in the game was scored by Neal Maupay in the 21st minute. It was Phil Foden who scored the equalising goal before completing his hat trick in the 70th minute. His stand-out performance was enough to secure a convincing win for the reigning Premier League champions.
