Dong Fangzhou scored a last-gasp equaliser as China drew 1-1with New Zealand.
Beijing: Manchester United's Dong Fangzhou scored a last-gasp equaliser as China scratched out a 1-1 draw against 10-man New Zealand Thursday to get their Olympic quest off to an unconvincing start.
Dong rose over the defence to send a looping header past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Jacob Spoonley with two minutes left on the clock, sending the packed crowd into a frenzy.
It was a demoralising end for a New Zealand side who lost defender Steven Old who was sent off six minutes before half-time for handball.
Jeremy Brockie rifled home a right foot drive just inside the penalty area after Craig Henderson lobbed the ball over a napping defence in the 52nd minute.
