Chelsea captain John Terry reiterated his desire to extend his contract with the Premier League champions on Sunday, a week after announcing he would leave at the season's end.

Diego Costa struck in injury time to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with Terry after the game again making clear his wish to stay at Chelsea.

"It's a difficult one. The club is the most important thing, but there's no communication at the moment. I said what I had to say, that's how it is," Terry told Sky Sports.

"I've made it very clear I want to stay, but more important is getting up to where we should be in the table."

The former England skipper dropped a bombshell after last weekend's 5-1 win at second-tier Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Cup by revealing he would be leaving Chelsea after the club decided not to renew his contract.

However, Chelsea have since responded to say Terry, who has made 698 appearances for the Blues since his debut in 1998, may yet be offered a new deal despite last week's announcement.

Chelsea's interim manager Guus Hiddink was reluctant to discuss the matter after Sunday's game.

"We have dealt with this issue last week," the Dutchman told reporters.

"Let's wait (and see) what happens. We are now focusing ourselves and he himself explained that he's focusing on the games in a tough week or weeks coming up. So we're not and he's not focusing on this issue."
