The Red Devils’ current season has been nothing but hell indeed, with the club slipping and sliding around the Premier League table with no signs of consistency whatsoever so far, all in a confused and dazed manner. ‘
The latest news report from Sky Sports though might just bring about some peace within the ranks, as it has been reported that Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will opt to stay with Manchester United till the end of the season before exercising any other options.
In a trying season filled with squad changes galore, and a lack of identity and consistency, Eriksen has been one of the very few amongst the senior team to display sparks of creativity and discipline on a consistent basis.
Especially early on in the season, with the likes of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes having no real influence in the game and English forward Marcus Rashford failing to fire on any cylinder for the most part, Eriksen took on the weight of being the fulcrum of United’s midfield, being the orchestrator of counter-attacks and passing play for the club on field.
But, thanks to Erik Ten Hag’s lack of any solid structure for the club, Eriksen has been a victim of the constant changes, playing only 19 times across all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring only one goal and providing two assists this season.
All this turmoil enabled Super Lig giants Galatasaray to consider making a move for the 31-year-old midfielder to try and lure him away from Old Trafford.
Reports from various sources claimed that there had been meetings between Manchester United officials and Galatasaray representatives, with special attention given to the secrecy of the negotiations. The supposed deal was reportedly going to be a loan with an option to buy.
But, it seems as if the interest for time being has fizzled out, atleast from the side of the Dane, who seems intent on staying with the Red Devils till the end of the season and then weighing his options for the future.
The door is not completely shut for Galatasaray, who can still reach out to the Dane in the upcoming summer window if interests stay alive.
But for time being, Eriksen will stay put and hope to play his role out with United to the best of his abilities. Well, if and when Erik Ten Hag allows him to play, that is.
