New Delhi: David Beckham's move to LA Galaxy is beginning to look like a colossal waste of time and money. Having exerted negligible impact on the spread of 'soccer' in the United States, the England midfielder seemed to spend most of his stay in California jetting back to Europe for one reason or another.
Now back playing in Europe with Italian giants AC Milan, and with a permanent switch from the MLS to Serie A seemingly imminent, Beckham has once again become a player who looks like he could be of some serious use to his country's team once more.
Certainly England coach Fabio Capello, who has enjoyed success at Milan himself of course, seems pleased to welcome Beckham back to Europe, with the former England captain seemingly having every chance of making the Three Lions squad to face Spain in a friendly in Seville next week.
"I'm very happy for David and for AC Milan," Sky Sports reports Capello as saying.
"He is a media star and for this reason all the fans spoke about him in this way before he arrived; like a star not a player. But now he has played three games, and every game has been better.
"Milan want him to stay, and the fans are very happy for his style of play and the performances for the team."
Capello did receive a blow to his hopes for what should be an interesting match up with the European champions, despite losing midfielder Steven Gerrard, who tore his hamstring in last night's Liverpool FA Cup defeat to Everton.
"I think England will be strong in Spain, I am very confident in my team," Capello asserted.
"Spain play fantastic football. They are very quick but I enjoy this kind of challenge."
