new Delhi: Italy coach Marcello Lippi believes Italian football is at the forefront of the world's game and he has taken the chance to remind everyone that Italy are still champions.

The Azzurri are on course to qualify for the 2010 tournament in South Africa and they are currently ranked fourth in the FIFA world rankings.

As well as this, Italian clubs are making huge strides in Europe. Lippi believes that the overall state of Italian football is good, despite violence and refereeing mistakes.

"The balance of our football is good and we are still the World Champions for another year and a half at least," Lippi told Radio Kiss Kiss".

"Also, our under-21 team is one of the strongest too. Italy is at the forefront of football and it's difficult to see us slide away from the position that we have conquered."

Juventus, Milan, Roma and Inter are all on course for glory in Europe this term.

And so is the under-21 side who will play in the 2009 Championships in Sweden next June.
